ATI vs Nvidia?

This is a discussion thread to see what people think based on the two companies and to compare which cards are better for what and how.

Currently I'm running a Nvidia Geforce 9800GT for gaming, and its working pretty well for me, however I know a bunch of people running really high end ATI cards and they get lots of issues with their gaming. Is there a specific reason for that? Is it just the companies not tailoring their programs to work with ATI or is it something more?

new coding most likely pertaining to directx11/new opengl or something like that programmers like the old dog cant be taught new tricks thing

some faults and shinanigans will happen when you go fiddling around adding and changing things on the programmers that are in the middle of making software then all of a sudden its heads up time to learn something new

who likes learning something new anyway? when you just want to get payed and go home .

i chalk it up to human error

ati wont force you to upgrade your power supply as much

i run a generic gray box 500 watt psu
140w tri phenom
4850toxic takes 6pin 1 molex addapter
8gigs of ram
2 sata 1 ide drive
dvdrw

yet my negbour was suggested to upgrade to a 600watt psu
95w athlon 5000+
for his 8800gts which takes that 6pin connector but NEEDS 2 5v molex for the adapter
4gb of ram
1 250 sata hard drive
dvdrw

later replaced the 8800gts with a hd4670 512gddr3 pcie
works better and his hdtv's colour is normal 8800's was off colour and had to be manualy corrected.

Right now, ATI is faster, and probably will be for the short term. As a general rule, ATI cards use less power and create heat, but these things often change with each new version that comes out.

I have a 9800GT as well right now, but will be moving to an ATI when I get the cash.

I like the idea of amd incorporating fully functional Ati gpus on to their motherboards making it dirty cheap to build a system with already hd/blu ray abilities
and the power to run games its not going to blow your mind at 800x600 resolution for best possible quality to Fps ratio
but if your playing anything source engine related at 800x600 on high detail settings 4xaa 8xaf and getting the 49fps mark thats pretty good turn aa/af off and low and behold 93fps

I stand by the old 3dfx 30fps is minimum for game play.

nvidia does the same but most of amd's have their hybrid crossfire feature with the on board/pcie video

nvidias hybrid sli feature slightly limited

as oppose to getting some motherboard with a generic S3/intel Gma onboard nerfed graphics that only send you running to buy a video card.

instead of being a piece that just gets disabled and never used.

I can have the on board video do gpu folding@home in the background leaving my primary pcie videocard free to do what i want. can use the on boards vga dvi and hdmi connectors along with the pcie videos to have uh 6 monitors going at the same time? either way it sure beats having a pice of your computer disabled ..i mean u payed for it why disable it.
