HD5770 need help again...

Bought the HD5770 and put it in my system. I'll be damned the same thing my 5850 did. Kicking myself for returning it. Anyway, once I put the new card in system will not post. Put the old card in and all it good. Could really use some advice on this one. My specs..

MB: Epox 9NPA +ultra nforce4
CPU: Athlon II 3500+
2 gig PNY pc3200 memory
Old Vid: ATI X1950PRO
NEW VId: Sapphire hd5770

I updated the bios with no luck. don't know where to go from here. Spent hours on the internet looking for answers and I cannot find anything. Please help

Thanks....

Hey Whitefang, not to sound bossy but could you post your Power Supply Unit model?

I looked around the internet as well, couldn't really find anything that says you should be having a problem. Sorry for the non-help, but I will keep looking.

I've scoured the internet for about an hour just now and couldn't find anything. I did, however, read your previous post. Did you buy the modular Rosewill 850 PSU? If so, do you have the PCIe 6 pin connectors set properly into the HD5770 card? If the connections are loose, this may cause the system to not POST.

The only other thing I can think of is that the motherboard PCIe slot doesn't support a x16 lane slot. I doubt this is it tho, I'm pretty sure even the earlier versions of PCIe were all x16 lane... but I could be wrong.

Well let us know if you've worked it out or not.

Yes, I have taken it out and replaced it numerous times. Tried changing some bios setting as well. AT a real loss here. Checked specs on the motherboard and it is pcie x16. With the new video card in but not plugged in the motherboard will at least give me an error beep. But once it is plugged in nothing.

Dang. Really sorry I couldn't be of more help, I'm at a loss as well. I can't really think of anything else you could try really.

Do you have any friend's that wouldn't mind you trying out your video card on their system? I ask because it would be a shame to RMA another card to get say, an Nvidia card only to find the Nvidia card doesn't work as well. Just my two cents, I'm not always the smartest but...

Really hope you find a solution tho, the ATI cards are really awesmoe. I wish I owned one. Alas I am stuck with an earlier (but still decent) model. Anyways, let us know what happens with this one, please.

iv seen something weird happen to a friends pc
where in upon unplugging / some times changing a pice of hardware would cause it to produce a blank screen at start up.

oddly remedied by changing the sata port his hard drive was plugged in to.

Your motherboard has a nVidia chipset I believe. Using newer ATI cards with that older chipset could be your problem. I see that you used an old old ATI card before, but keeping up with the times just might be it.

I would try seeing if a buddy has a newer nvidia card. I don't really think it has to do with how you are setting it up as it is what hardware you are using. This is a fresh gen of gfx cards.

You could also try to put in the old card, see if you can perhaps update your chipset, and then see if it rolls over good with the old card. If so, then try with the new card and see how that goes.

Alright im out of ideas. Best of luck!

Thanks for all of your help. I will have to try and see if I can find updated drivers for the chipset ( can I assume that is the nforce4? ). I will let you know if I have any luck with any of the input you all have given me.

Thanks again.
