Google Chrome OS Screenshots Leaked

Google Chrome OS is based on the Linux kernel and is an open source project that is currently supported by Acer, Asus, Adobe, Freescale, HP, Lenovo, Qualcomm and Texas Instruments.

An anonymous person created a Chrome OS Leak blog and posted screenshots of the private developer beta of the OS. As per the blog post, Google representatives visited the Acer team to show distinct features of the Chrome OS. The Google Chrome OS installation on Acer Extensa 4620Z laptop took about 10 minutes

Looks like Linux has some competition at hand, even though this technically is a Linux system due to it being based on the kernel. Here's hoping it's a solid OS and not just a dressed-up distro we've seen a million times.

I'm tired of Google not having 100% of my personal data, hopefully this will help provide them with what they're missing

While I'm happy that Microsoft will get more competition, I don't think that I'd want to give more info to Google.

LOL, I feel the same way. Their reach and influence is already too big. Next Step - the Google PC.

This article just about sums up my feelings on Google.

Quote:
Many people have a lot of information just sitting there on Google's servers including personal appointments (Calendar), correspondence (Gmail), work and personal documents (Google Docs) and online reading habits (Google Reader).

In 2007, PC World published this startling chart showing the privacy risks for your information. The basic problem was that all your information is just sitting there on Google's servers unencrypted, raising the risk of data loss, theft, or unauthorized access.

See, this news of a Twitter hack is why I wouldn't want everything online in some remote location where I'd just have to trust all would be okay.

Quote:
Twitter is reporting details on a hack that leaked internal Twitter documents to news Web sites, including TechCrunch. The social-media superstar is exposing the root of the vulnerability that allowed an attacker into an administrative employee's e-mail account.

"From the personal account, we believe the hacker was able to gain information which allowed access to this employee's Google Apps account, which contained Docs, Calendars, and other Google apps Twitter relies on for sharing notes, spreadsheets, ideas, financial details, and more within the company," said Twitter cofounder Biz Stone.
